Why? Well...the repairguy came by for a visit to see what was wrong with the clothes dryer. It turned out that the switch (the one on the wall, you flick it when the power goes out, etc) was only half way clicked, not all the way. There are two fuses. One for the motor, one for the heating element. The one for the heating element wasn't switched on, but the motor one WAS. And I DID flick the stupid fuse switch, I DID. And it STILL didn't work!

So, I shelled out the money for the visit and felt all stupid and red over it. Live and learn.

Almost a Go

At least I didn't goof up on Little Guy's enrollment for preschool class at his school next year. There are two classes of 15 students each. After you fill out the forms, bring in the birth certificate, the proof of residency and location, and immunization yellow sheet, you and your child are supposed to go to an *interview*. Yes, an INTERVIEW. You and four other parent/children go to a meeting, are interviewed, and supposedly, are either okayed or not at that point for the program. I assume it's to get a balance of kids who really 'need' a preschool program (ie, those with some to none English) with those who are native speakers and are not disadvantaged (that would be my son).

And it's a parent participatory program too. Parents take a 10 week (one day a week, while child is in class) course in .. I don't know, education? and have a once a month meeting held on a Friday, sans child. WTH I'm going to do with Little Guy during this once a month meeting is beyond me. I suppose I could drop him off at a daycare for a couple of hours, but...er...so not into daycares. We'll see. An adult connected with the child in the program is also supposed to volunteer to work in the classroom with the kids once a month (I think, I'll have to check). I'm willing to volunteer twice a month, or even more, if it comes down to it -- but ef, I've been dreaming about having BOTH rugrats in school at the same time for ages! Want some coffee house writing time! Oh yeah, BayBee!
